Welcome to St Edmund's CR site
Description
Welcome
Dear Students,
Congratulations on your admission to the University of Cambridge and welcome to its most international and friendliest college, St. Edmund’s. University life is an exciting time and Cambridge is full of unique experiences. The members of St. Edmund’s College welcome you as your first point of contact in Cambridge and will oftentimes become your very best friends.
Undergraduates at Cambridge receive standard lectures which are organized by the many departments. They also receive supervisions which are usually organized by the colleges. Supervisions are small groups of two to four students where learning can be achieved on a more personable level.
Postgraduates are assigned a supervisor who is the principally in charge of your degree plan. Many postgraduates will also be assigned a program director, departmental tutor, and college tutor. All of these individuals are there to help you in your scholarly and personal achievements while at Cambridge. Much information can be found concerning the relationship between a postgraduate and their supervisor on the Graduate’s Union website. This can be accessed via http://gradunion.cam.ac.uk/postgrad/supervisors.html.
St. Edmund’s College is the most diverse group of international scholars at Cambridge who in 2009-2010 were comprised of 70 nationalities in just under 350 students total. This translates into lasting friendships with people from all over the world. From an even more practical perspective, conversation won’t die easily in the Dining Hall! Along with the unique perspectives found here, there are many additional amenities designed to make your time at Cambridge a most successful one.
St. Edmund’s College has an active and highly successful Boat Club in which dozens of students participate in rowing against other Cambridge colleges and some compete at the University level. Several other sporting groups and societies, along with an active Combination Room (Student Union in Cambridge dialogue) complete your College life. On the University level, there are a multitude of sporting, societal, and entertainment groups which you will become familiar with during your first few weeks here. Additional information for these groups can be found on the Cambridge University Student Union (CUSU) website.
The Combination Room (CR) at St. Edmund’s plays an active role in both the entertainment wishes and welfare needs of its members. We are currently planning exciting events for you in order to familiarize you with both your college and Cambridge. You are invited to take a look at our website, http://cr.st-edmunds.cam.ac.uk in which important information about arriving and living in Cambridge is presented. I would also ask you to contact a member of the College staff or myself if you have any questions regarding the upcoming year.
We look forward to meeting you this fall and I offer you a most warm welcome.
Sincerely,
Joshua Ward
President, St. Edmund’s College Combination Room
