Summary
CUSU is a federal organisation made up of every College Students' Union (JCRs/MCRs etc.), and exists to represent Cambridge students' interests at a university level, and to provide central services and support for all students.
Description
Membership consists of all undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Cambridge. However, it possesses a partly federal structure since its funding comes from individual college student unions. The upshot is that CUSU provides support for the college student unions (JCRs/MCRs/SAs etc.) at a University level, but also provides services for students directly. An active Student Union (SU) is a vital component of your university life - you will use it all the time, even though you may not realise it. Being a member of your Student Union means that you are just as much a part of CUSU as one of the students you elect to look after its day to day affairs. You can become as closely or as little involved as you like, but you will still be absolutely crucial to its work. There are so many different areas to CUSU's work that there is something for almost everyone. CUSU is run on a day to day basis by six full-time officers, known as sabbaticals, who are students or former students of the University. They also form part of the Executive, the rest of whom are elected to direct CUSU's work while studying. You can find this year's sabbatical and part-time exec members in our contacts section. They will be delighted to hear from you if you have any questions about CUSU's work.
