Description
Cambridge University Hong Kong Postgraduates (HKPG) began as an informal mailing list among - but not exclusive to - a group of post-graduate students with Hong Kong origins. Its activities are mainly related to experience sharing and entertainment. Over the years, the membership has grown to over 200 and HKPG has become more structured, but its aims and nature have changed little, although the scale and spectrum of the activities have evolved to accommodate the ever widening membership base. On the experience sharing side, our activities span from helping new students with their arrival, accommodation and getting use to living in Cambridge, all the way to preparing for graduation, applying for funding and extension, and looking for jobs. Tradition also has it that belongings (bicycles, kettles, VCD's, magazines etc.) would be passed down generations of students. On the entertainment side, there are the small scale dim sum gatherings, cinema visits as well as formal exchanges which may be organised by any HKPG members, sometimes fairly extemporaneously. At the same time, there are the large scale events that will be organised by a subcommittee. This year (2007/08) we saw a series of successful events, including the welcome party at the beginning of year in the BA room of Trinity College, the Chinese New Year party with Lord Wilson, 27th Governor of Hong Kong and Ms Sarah Wu, the Director General of HKETO, at the Master's Lodge of Peterhouse, and a grad hall at Lucy. We are a rising group that counts on the enthusiasm and dedication of every member - not just to help organise events, but more importantly to take part and have fun together. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing our Cambridge experience. We have a facebook group for your information. http://www.facebook.com/wall.php?id=106346135443#/group.php?gid=2211300758.
